Despite the labels, a quarter of the Italians' spending remains anonymous

"Faced with the uncertain and contradictory attitude of the European Union that obliges to indicate the label for fresh meat, but not for the one transformed into cold cuts, for fresh fruit, but not for juices, Italy is a leader European transparency and quality has a duty to lead the way in EU food policies ", said the president of Coldiretti Moncalvo, stressing that" in a difficult time for the economy we must bring to the market the added value of transparency with the 'obligation to indicate on the label the origin of all foods.

"The obligation to indicate on the label the origin is a historic battle of Coldiretti that with the collection of one million signatures to the law of popular initiative has led to the approval of the law n.204 of 3 August 2004. At Community level, the transparency process began with beef after the mad cow emergency in 2002, while since 2003 it is mandatory to indicate the variety, quality and origin in fresh fruit and vegetables.
